Digital technology has made smartphones an essential part of young people's daily routine. However, spending hours staring at screens for games and social media often pushes physical activities aside. Sitting or lying down for long periods creates a passive lifestyle known as a sedentary lifestyle. In fact, recent research shows that teenagers' screen time duration is currently at a high level. We must realize the hidden risks of this habit before it harms our health.

Spending too much screen time without exercise leads to serious physical health problems. Studies show that screen time addiction decreases muscle strength, speed, and overall physical fitness. In addition, sitting continuously while snacking on unhealthy foods significantly increases the risk of obesity. It also causes eye fatigue, neck pain, and poor sleep quality due to night blue light exposure. Feeling tired and stiff in the morning is a clear sign that your body needs to move more.

A screen-dominated lifestyle affects not only your body, but also your mental health and academic focus. Continuous digital exposure can trigger anxiety, social media addiction, and shorter attention spans. Many students struggle to concentrate on their studies because their brains get used to instant online stimulation. Furthermore, lack of physical movement increases stress and lowers daily motivation. In contrast, regular physical activity helps improve brain function and supports better academic performance.

Fortunately, technology is not something we must avoid completely. The real key is finding a healthy balance between gadget use and regular exercise. Physical education and outdoor activities are effective ways to protect our health from a passive lifestyle. Spending just 30 minutes a day on light exercise keeps your muscles active and burns extra calories. When you start moving, your metabolism works better and your energy levels increase gradually.

Since we are still young and full of energy, let's shift our focus from phone screens to a healthier lifestyle. Put away your phone, get up, and enjoy fun workouts like jogging, basketball, or a simple walk around your neighborhood. Remember that staying healthy in both body and mind is the best investment for your future dreams. Start today with small steps by reducing your screen time and moving more. Let's make an active lifestyle the mark of a smart and energetic generation!
