Heavy rains that have been falling on the
city of Semarang since Wednesday, October 22, 2025, have caused many houses,
shops and roads to be flooded. Many areas of Semarang are flooded, including
the subdistricts of Genuk, Pedurungan and Kaligawe. As a result, resident’s
activities have been disrupted and many traders have stopped selling during the
floods.
The floods, wich lasted for more than a
week, prevented traders from selling their goods because the water was so high
that it reached their stalls. One food stall trader in Kaligawe, named Mrs.Erna
said, “Because of the flood we couldn’t sell anything for two days because the
water reached our stalls”.
Not only that, the flooding also cause some
of the goods in the stalls to be damaged due to the high water level. “The
display cases were damaged because they were often hit by waves of water when
large trucks passed by”, her continued.
Other trade experienced the same thing,
such as Mrs.Aisyah, a refil water trade, who said, “Yesterday flood had a huge
impact on my sales because two of my machines were damaged water that was knee-deep at the time. My
economy collapsed because I couldn’t sell during the flood”.
The recurring floods in Semarang not only
disrupt residents’ daily activities but also weaken the local economy as
traders struggle to operate and recover their losses. After the water recedes,
they must repair damaged equipment and rebuild their businesses, illustrating
the severe impact of flooding on the community’s livelihood.
