Indonesia is one of the countries with a Muslim
majority population. Every community/individual and group has a slightly
different perspective on Islam itself. This is different from the madhhab,
which has already been determined. There is a “wrong” perspective in assessing
Islam itself, which should be that God, Allah, is the only one to be
worshipped. However, in certain cases, there are groups that ‘misinterpret’ the
teachings of someone who is said to be a “teacher.” This can be proven by
several cases that have been widely reported on social media.

This can happen because of a hereditary system in
which someone does not know for sure the truth of what they have learned but
only bases their beliefs on faith. When viewed from another perspective, this
belief can be used as a shield to continue standing by one's faith, but there
are some individuals who ‘take advantage’ of this for their own interests or
those of other groups within it. This behavior can be described as dogmatism.
Dogma (from the Latin decretum and Greek dogma) is the result of the development
of doctrine. Dogma consists of axiomatic principles (which are considered true
and do not need to be proven) as a reflection of the doctrine that is believed
to be true. This clearly occurs in our surroundings, and it is very clear that
this is inappropriate behavior. In some cases, there are groups that
misinterpret Islamic teachings, placing teachers or religious leaders in a
position that is higher than it should be. This occurs because of a hereditary
system of understanding religion without knowing the absolute truth. Beliefs
that should be the foundation of faith can actually be exploited by certain
individuals for personal or group interests. This attitude is a form of
dogmatism, which is the belief that something is true without the need for
proof. Therefore, it is important for every individual and
group to continue learning, thinking critically, and understanding Islamic
teachings based on authentic sources in order to avoid misunderstandings and
deviations in religion.
