Tepuk Sakinah is proof that Indonesian netizens are adept at turning simple things into entertainment that quickly goes viral. Amidst the abundance of content on platforms such as TikTok, Instagram, and Reels, a simple video from the Menteng KUA attracted a lot of attention with its distinctive hand clapping movement from marriage guidance.

What is Tepuk Sakinah?

Tepuk Sakinah is a method used in marriage counseling at the KUA to help prospective brides and grooms more easily remember the values of a sakinah family. Initially, it was just a simple way to help memorize the five pillars of sakinah, developed during training for marriage officiants. As stated by Abdul Hakim, the marriage officiant at the Menteng KUA in Central Jakarta, “At first, Tepuk Sakinah was just a simple way to memorize the key points in marriage counseling.”
