THE INDONESIAN NATIONAL TEAM'S FIRST DEFEAT IN ROUND 8 OF THE 2026 WORLD CUP QUALIFIES

Surprisingly, the Indonesian national team lost 2-1 to the Asian zone's hosts, China, in the 2026 World Cup qualifying match. The Garuda Squad was left in fifth place in Group C rankings as a result of this loss.
On the fourth matchday of the Asian zone's Group C 2024 World Cup Qualification, China and Indonesia square off. The game was played on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, at the Qingdao Youth Football Stadium in Qingdao. With two goals in the first half, the Chinese national team took the lead. Zhang Yuning scored in the 44th minute, and Behram Abduweli scored in the 21st. Thom Haye's goal for the Indonesian national team then cut the lead to 2-1. Pratama Arhan's long-range throw gave Haye the goal.
China's fortifications are still surrounded by Indonesia. But no goals were scored until nine minutes of extra time. China is the hosts, winning 2-1. With three points from this loss, Indonesia remained in fifth place. China lost to the Garuda Squad on goal differential, but they had the same number of points and finished in sixth place. With 10 points, Japan remains at the top of the standings. Australia came next in second place with five points.
