Heavy rains that have been pouring down on Semarang
City for almost two weeks have caused severe flooding in various areas,
including Kaligawe Street, the Sultan Agung Islamic University campus, and
several densely populated residential areas. Until now, there has been no adequate
response from the local government, so the flooding persists and residents'
activities are severely disrupted.
The flooding, which has lasted for almost two weeks,
has severely limited residents' mobility. Many vehicles are stuck in the middle
of flooded roads, and several public transportation routes have been forced to
shut down. This situation has also had a major impact on students, who have had
to postpone their teaching and learning activities on campus.
“We have been studying online for almost two weeks
because access to campus is flooded. To be honest, learning has become less
effective. Many of my friends have difficulty accessing the internet at home,
and class discussions are not as interactive as usual,” said Putri, a third-semester
student at Sultan Agung Islamic University.
In addition to students, road users are also
disappointed with the lack of action from the local government. “Every year,
the flooding is always here, but there’s never a real solution. The main road
is flooded up to half the height of a car tire, and that makes my daily commute
a nightmare,” complained Rizky, a private employee who passes through this road
every day.
Residents hope that the government will immediately
take concrete steps, such as repairing the drainage system and not just installing
water pumps in areas prone to flooding.
