Last night, the Stade de France hosted a magnificent event to formally begin the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, which the city will host for the third time. A spectacular exhibition of French history and culture was showcased at the event, which included an aerial show over the Seine River and the theme "Light of the World."
The Olympic cauldron, modeled like the Eiffel Tower, was lit by tennis legend Rafael Nadal after more than 200 countries took part in the athlete procession. With all sustainable materials and 100% renewable energy, Paris 2024 is expected to be the greenest Olympics ever.
32 sports will be competing, with track and field, swimming, and gymnastics where Simone Biles and other celebrities compete being among the highlights. Beach volleyball near the Eiffel Tower is one of the famous Parisian venues where events will take place.
The Games seek to honor solidarity and resiliency in spite of obstacles brought on by increased security and global health issues. Watch this space for daily updates from the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.
