The Ministry of Youth and Sports (Kemenpora) is again holding a sports program for people with disabilities in Surakarta. On October 2, 2024, the GrandHAP Hotel Surakarta hosted the "Disability Sports Festival" (FOD) Technical Guidance as a preparatory step for the main event.
This technical guidance presented
various related parties, ranging from sports activists, educators, government
employees, to representatives of Special Schools (SLB) throughout Surakarta.
FOD will feature competitions in five sports: Bocce, athletics, badminton,
table tennis, and boccia.
Ibnu Hasan, Assistant Deputy for
Sports for Persons with Disabilities of the Ministry of Youth and Sports,
emphasized that the festival promotes equal rights between people with
disabilities and non-disabled people in accessing happiness and health through
sports. In line with that, Luhur Dewantoro stated that this event is a form of
appreciation for the principle of equality in the world of sports.
Furthermore, Luhur expressed his
hope that this activity will increase participation in sports and fitness, and
has the potential to produce athletes with disabilities who are able to make
Indonesia proud in the international arena.
This festival is expected to be a
catalyst to increase the involvement of people with disabilities in sports
activities and open more opportunities for them to excel. Surakarta is expected
to set an example in promoting inclusion in the field of sports, inspiring
other cities across Indonesia to follow in its footsteps.
